Item 02. The light that unites. Cadaqués 2022

A publication created for our clients, friends and those with whom we feel a connection and truly want to share our time. In this issue we welcome summer through a commission for the object editor Santa & Cole. ‘The Light that Unites’ is the title of this story that plays out on the Costa Brava, in a house designed by Correa and Milá Arquitectos in 1962. It is a portrayal of celebration and sharing through light, colour and objects.

With the desire to recreate experiences around light and transfer the deep cultural roots of the brand, we began to search for locations. Our premise was to find a space that would preserve the sense of intimate, family life, a place that would encourage a certain way of living. Through this process we discovered Casa Rumeu, a hexagonal-shaped, family home built in a quiet town, full of the fresh air and spontaneity that is characteristic of Cadaqués. A house with discreet and homely architecture that tells the story of a town and a family that have carefully preserved the building in its original form, maintaining the essential without attracting publicity.

We had read the space, were enveloped by it, and developed an idea that projected a composition of objects and light. We took the necessary time to reflect on a brand that stands for values that we share, and that we wanted to capture through a collection of positive images. It was a time that we dedicated to studying in depth how the light of Cadaqués affected the materials and the different rooms of the house.

We went through the selection of lamps and objects guided by the non-rational process that Fernando Amat described in his renowned contemporary design store Vinçon: “When selecting objects, it is easier if you simply follow what your heart tells you. It’s like when you go to a museum. You walk very quickly until suddenly, your heart stops in front of a painting. Your body is trying to tell you something.”

Fire, sun, flashes, alabaster, Japanese paper, ribbon, porcelain, brass, wood and card. Through a studied composition of natural and artificial light, materials and objects of different character and weight, we managed to portray, together with the photographer Enric Badrinas, the purpose of the commission. An atmosphere that defines the objects that surround us, giving spaces a meaning and coherence. That light that enriches our lives and that unites us around a table, inviting us to share in conversations that bring joy.

With thanks to
The Rumeu family for kindly opening the doors of their home to us, especially Teresa Rumeu.
