Ephemeral installation to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Santa & Cole, through an exhibition of light featuring the most prominent pieces from their collection.
A study in light and food: in collaboration with Pepi de Boissieu and Laila Gohar, an interactive experience was created around an edible installation that accompanied the lamps. Thus, the guests and friends began to recognize the warm light of the Santa & Cole Collection through the flavours of the Mediterranean recipes dedicated to each piece. The food and light menu of each installation was:
– Babel Lamp: Flat bread totems inspired by Egyptian breads that are left to rise under the heat of the sun for a couple of days, served with Japanese furikake, a mixture of seaweed.
– Blanco lamp: Frisée Garden. Frisée, a member of the chicory family, turns bitter when exposed to excess sunlight. The leaves of this endive variety are tied to protect the delicate heart from the harsh sun, giving the vegetable its distinctive two-tone colour.
– Cesta and Cestita Lamp: Dehydrated potatoes cooked in salt and spinach. Miso activated charcoal sauce. Turmeric powder:
When exposed to excessive sunlight, potatoes tend to turn green due to a substance known as solanine. Potatoes also turn green when exposed to artificial products, like those found at the grocery store.
– Moragas Lamp: Contrary to popular belief, peanuts are not nuts, but legumes that require full sun exposure. The coarse shell protects the kernels from harsh weather. After long exposure to the sun, these peanuts were boiled to rehydrate and infused with spices.
– Básica Lamp: Baby Artichoke, Lemon, Coarse Salt: The tough outer leaves of the artichoke plant protect the delicate heart from the intensity of light, making the heart soft and white. If the vegetable is not harvested and remains exposed to sunlight, a beautiful purple flower will bloom.
– TMM Lamp: The best quality cabbages are grown on sunny days but with light frosts at night. The balance between day and night takes away the bitterness of the bud.
– Cirio Circular Lamp: The great dune of couscous. Although sunlight is essential for all crops, water is just as crucial. In sandy desert climates, while there is excessive sun, water is limited, so very few crops can flourish.
– M64 Lamp: In the deep ocean, sea sponges transmit light and can harbour photosynthetically active microorganisms in deeper tissue regions. Sponges can convert light within their bodies by employing amorphous siliceous structures. We could say that sponges are somehow the original fibre optics.
